After we have received God’s gift
of eternal life, we begin a life long journey of beginning to know Him better. One of the first questions you might ask about
God is, “What is He like?” Though human words cannot adequately describe Him, He has revealed much about Himself
to us through, His word, the Bible. In the Bible God tells us, “I am God, and there is none else; I am God and there
is none like me,” So we learn two things from this passage of Scripture; there is only one God, and there is no one
like Him.
Because God is beyond human comprehension He cannot be made into an idol and worshipped. The
Bible tells us, “God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” Another
passage of Scripture states, “we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven
by art and man's device.” God cannot be made into an idol.
As we continue to learn more about God we begin to see exactly why there is no one like Him.
The Bible describes God as, all-powerful, existing everywhere at the same time, all-knowing, and unchanging. These are just
a few of the qualities that make Him who He is. . . God! Indeed there is none like Him.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about God is the fact that He loves us. Because He loves us,
He wants us to know Him and to some day dwell with Him in heaven. In God’s master plan to achieve this, He has seen
fit to carry out this plan by expressing Himself in different forms. The Bible tells us that, “For there are three that
bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” Just like water has three
states; solid, liquid, and gas, God carries out His master plan for man in three different forms; God the Father, God the
Son (the Word made flesh), and God the Holy Ghost (or Holy Spirit). And just like water is the same substance (H2 O) regardless
of its state, God is God, whether He is expressed as the Father, Son, or Holy Spirit. In all three forms it is the same substance.
. .God.
Remember, the Bible tells us that there is “none like Him.” Yet, when we read about
the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit we see that they each have qualities that only God can possess. That’s
because God is a triune God. Three different forms but there is only one God.
